Week 3 Update

My, my, my, time flies when you are having fun!

The ants are gone, I'm getting in the habit of unplugging everything, and I've put up peaches, corn and rhubarb.  I've been keeping to one glass/mug a day, when I'm at home, and my new deodorant is great.

The kids aren't thrilled with the showers instead of baths, but we're making progress in that regard.  :)  Travelling has once again put a small kink in the works, but for the most part, I've been able to keep about 80-85% of the changes on the road.

I think I''m slowly converting DH to the Dark Side - I've caught him unplugging the coffee maker and switching off the computer power bar.  He's also the one who preserved the corn for me while I was away.

I'm on a search for an alternative to PAM, my cooking spray of choice.  The can doesn't say "CFC-free", so I must assume that it contains them.  I don't like olive oil in a pump spray bottle - I find it very hard to clean the baking dishes afterwards.

Thank you again to all readers, public and private.  It's nice to hear the words of encouragement and share our stories.

  1. My husband is slowly becoming more interested in our vegan cleanse. He's actually tried a few things and there are some things that he actually likes better than the normal stuff. He'd better get used to it! I'm enjoying being vegan so much and feeling so good that he's going to be stuck with it :)
FYI only...the next project my daughter and I are taking on is the EcoChallenge. I know hubby is not going to have an easy time of that one either! lol
yhou are doing great!! Keep up the good work :)

  2. I have not used spray oil products like Pam for years. I do have a couple of pump spray bottles, one for olive oil and one for veggie oil. I agree it's not the same as Pam - not as easy to clean, doesn't quite spray as well - but it's affordable, reduces waste in the landfill, and better for you! If you don't like the sprays you could keep a jar of oil and just brush oil on the pan.

  3. Thanks for the comments Carolyn and JuiceMom. I am going to try the oil and brush method to see if this works. I remember years ago my mother used butter and flour in her baking pans, so I might try this technique, as well.

  4. Just catching up on your blog after being away.

I use butter and flour in my baking pans. I save the wrappers that the butter comes in, keeping them in the fridge. When I need to grease a pan, I tear off a piece of the wrapper and use that.

  5. Saving the wrappers sounds like a great idea, Susan. I wish I'd read your comment before putting out butter to soften this morning and throwing out the wrapper! :)
