I'm seeing red! (Day 6)

I joined the Red Dot Campaign (http://www.reddotcampaign.ca/) today.  This is a privately funded social venture promoting the reduction of junk mail.  Their mandate is to raise awareness of Canada Post's eco-friendly Consumer Choice option that reduces waste and clutter.  All you need to do is put a "no admail" or "no junk mail" sign on your mailbox.  The signs can be downloaded from the website and taped to your mailbox.

I also signed up for the Canadian Marketing Association's Do Not Contact Registry (http://www.the-cma.org/?WCE=C=47%7CK=224217), to reduce unwanted marketing offers from their members.

Then, I thought, what the heck, and signed up for the CRTC's Do Not Call List (http://www.ioptout.ca/).  The website is not up and running yet, but you can contact them at 1-866-580-3625.

  1. This is a fabulous campaign. I am so saddened that we don't have this kind of program in the US.

  2. Does the US Postal Service not honour these kinds of requests? That's too bad. I'm anxious to see what kind of response I get from Canada Post.

    Thank you for your support!

  5. Congrats Eco Mama on the blog (I'm just getting caught up now)!

My question is - the "no junk mail" sign, does that actually work for anyone? Sadly we've had no luck with it in the city...

Keep up the blog! : )

  6. The Red Dot Campaign has worked great for us. We put a "No junk mail, please" sign on our mailbox with a red dot on it (just a little red circle sticker we happened to have) and filled out the form that you can download from the website. Except for a day or two when we've had substitute letter carriers, we've had no unaddressed junk mail for a couple of years now (it does eliminate only flyers and other unaddressed mail, not junk mail that is addressed to you).

It has made a huge difference in the volume of mail we get--and it was almost all stuff that went directly into the recycling bin anyway. We really notice the change when we collect mail for neighbours who are on vacation.

  7. That's great to hear - I hope to get the same results at our place.

  9. We moved into a house that had a "No Junk Mail" sign and we never get junk mail. Canada Post and the flyer deliverer's really honour it.
